Presenting new artworks made by Josip Generalic during the 1950s, many not seen in public for decades.

Our on-line gallery now features 27 artworks from 1950-1959, almost as-is after scanning, with very little editing. Please note how Josip Generalic signed some of his early works with “Gena”, his nickname during that period.

Some of the most favourite moments are discoveries of photographs with authors actually holding their finished artworks. There’s no certificate which can authenticate a work more than that. It’s also a special opportunity to see when and where the artwork was made, how the room looked like or even artist’s mood.

There’s more where these came from, so we plan to collect them all and put them next to each painting in our on-line albums.

By the way, some of hereby presented paintings are still in our collection and are even available for sale.

Das naive Bild der Welt

Just an example of how we pinpoint the exact dates of hundreds of old photographs, which is a very slow and time consuming process.

First, we roughly group them by period, after that by event, then search for clues to get the exact date if possible.

These two appear to have been taken on the day of the opening of an exhibiton in Hannover. Fortunately, there’s a genuine exhibition poster available online, discovering the exact date, a detail not clearly seen on the photographs.

Our project’s goal is to sort out all photographs of famous naive artists Ivan and Josip Generalic from 1914 to 2004.
